Seasonal Flu Vaccine Ordering & Distribution

Important information about Seasonal Flu Vaccine ordering and distribution

Pediatric Healthcare Alliance takes a proactive approach to ordering seasonal flu vaccine (injection and nasal mist) for their patients. Vaccination orders are placed with our vendor for all 13 Pediatric Healthcare Alliance offices 7 months prior to vendor distribution. Even though the vendor starts production early, it is impossible for the vendor to finish the entire production/distribution process for all the healthcare industries they provide vaccination for prior to the beginning of vaccination season.

This is particularly true because of the large number of doses that are produced each year. Distribution of the flu vaccine from the vendor to all healthcare providers takes place over a number of months, beginning in late summer and ending in late November or early December.

If we are out of seasonal flu vaccine early in the season please note that it is temporary until our next shipment from the vendor arrives. You are welcome to call your pediatrician's office periodically to inquire if additional supply has been delivered. In addition, if you have a scheduled appointment for flu vaccine, it is recommended that you call the day of your appointment to verify stock is available.

Special Note About Vaccines for Children (VFC)

Our stock of vaccine products used for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is determined entirely by the Health Department. They allocate doses and decide if/when to send those doses to our offices. We are not able to order any specific amount, nor are we notified if/when stock is available. For the 2009-2010 flu season we have received extremely small quantities of seasonal flu vaccine for VFC, and we do not anticipate receiving any more doses. Patients are welcome to contact the Health Department directly to locate vaccines for your child(ren) under VFC, and you are also welcome to schedule a seasonal flu vaccine appointment at our office with the understanding that payment is due at time of service for private stock vaccine products.
